Fostering a good relationship with your child’s teachers can keep you in the loop with regards to their progress, changes that you should be aware of and help you identify ways in which you can support them in their learning. You may find that you also need each other’s support from time to time. Stop Them from Fooling You
By having a relationship with your child’s teachers, you can put an end to their excuses. No more “I don’t have any homework”, or the classic excuses that we all hear. You can make sure that it’s complete and see the benefit that it has to their grades at school.

It also works vice versa. Children can be crafty when trying to get themselves out of lesson and by having a direct line of communication with you, their teacher can verify.

Aside from that, you can learn about what your child’s struggling with at school, whether that be regards to their actual work or disruptive behaviour. These are small issues that you can nip in the bud to make sure that they’re doing well in school.

Also, as a qualified teacher they may have helpful resources to recommend and help you in supporting their learning at home.
The Importance of School
By talking to their teachers and paying an active interest in their education, you send the message that school’s important. Your child will see you investing time and energy into helping them and they may start taking school seriously.
These are just a few of the reasons why you should try and build a relationship with your child’s teachers. Teachers are busy people, and they don’t always have the time to sit and chat but they are more than happy to help when it comes to their pupils. You may want to check and see if you can book an appointment, otherwise parent’s evenings are a good time to get to know one another and ask the questions that you have.
